December = live storytelling!

I would love to claim I have superhuman
powers, or to somehow fool you all into thinking I did. But I don't
seem to be interested in either (until I get REAL superpowers, then
I'll scream it from the rooftops I'll have easily flown to. But,
until then...)

December is a crazy, insane month.
Sorceress of Shadows is due at my publisher's by end of year, my other
manuscript, Destiny's Blood, is due back to the editor in early
January, AND I haven't even started thinking about the whole holidays
thing, which I do so enjoy. It's oh so very sparkly and pretty!

So I've decided to take a break from
Stories Retold until mid-January. I could pull it off, I'm sure, but
I'd have to edit so much insane laughter from the story I would be a
time sucker. Who wants to deal with that?

Instead, I'd like to invite you all to
come to Iceborn on December 19, 7 to 9 pm, at the Raw Sugar Cafe in
Ottawa. Stories and poems will lead you from the darkness of winter to the light. What, you're not going to be in Ottawa? Well, I'll try and
get some footage for you guys! I'll try and record it, one way or
the other. Not guaranteeing anything as I've never attempted this, but I
will try for fun. I'll record the other Kymeras too â storyteller
Ruthanne Edward, Spoken Word Artist Sean Zio and Poet Kathryn Hunt,
and give you a taste of some of my favourite performers.

So keep an eye on this blog. I promise
to make it worth your while!

Cheers and Happy Holidays!

Marie

The Third Swan

Swan Lake is one of the most celebrated and mystical ballet by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, a Russian composer of the Romantic Era. I've always had a special love for this piece, since my father used to put me to sleep with this rather not tranquil music. The Third Swam is a fictional story based on this ballet.

When is this thing updated, anyways?

Every second Sunday. Now, some of the more perceptive amongst you may have noticed that the first two podcasts were a week apart, and three weeks will pass before the next installment. Well, you ARE perceptive and you must simply stop being so. The world will prove to be a great disappointment if you keep spotting its flaws (its many, many flaws).

The truth is that my counting skills are apparently so poor that I thought two weeks had gone by, and now I'm trying to get back on track. Grade school failed me.

So there will be a post on Sunday, and then a post every second Sunday. That's the commitment I make today, on this post that I can easily edit or erase and deny all knowledge of later.

Ah yes, I love modern "take it back!" technology!

Happy telling,

Marie

The King's Home

Based on Lord Alfred Tennyson's Idle of the Kings, The King's Home is a story of the final few breaths shared between Arthur and Guinevere before he leaves her and rides to his final battle. Wrought with betrayal, passion and cute boys, Tennyson's epic poem is a great read if you've never checked it out!

A Pint to Prophecy

Welcome all! I'm excited to post the first podcast for Stories Retold. I started off with one of my favourite stories to tell, "A Pint to Propecy," which is a modern retelling of RagnarÃk, the Norse end-of-the-world myth.

RagnarÃk is always told as a vision coming to Odin, since it obviously hadn't happened in the time of the myth, so I kept the same flavour in this telling. My main sources were two of the oldest texts recording Norse mythology: The Poetic Edda and The Prose Edda.

I had fun recording this and I hope you'll enjoy it. I learned lots and the next ones can only be better!

(A word of warning: I am a fairly well assimilated French Canadian, but my H's wander here and there. I try to keep them in check, but I fear they're wild and free.)
